Golden eye review
Goldeneye 007 - Review
The Nintendo 64 was the first home console to really integrate multiplayer gaming with games such as Mario Kart and most importantly Goldeneye. Goldeneye made FPS' fun and cool for home consoles and since then fans have been longing to have what is seen as the best Bond game remade for a new generation.
Goldeneye 007 is not a remake, if you didnt know any better this could be a brand new story or the next installment after Quantum of Solace. This is not a bad thing however because after sitting down with this game I can say that it is truly a pleasure to play. The story is pretty much the same but tailored to suit the present day, it works and is much better for it. Daniel Craig steps up to the role as Bond and definitely suits the mood of the game which is a blend of action and stealth. This is not the same game that you might be used to with Bond taking down enemies with some brutal moves and ditching his trusty gadgets for some more realistic mobile technology.
The single player campaign is fun but thats not where it ends because the main selling point with Goldeneye is along with 8 players online there is also 4 player local split screen multiplayer, something which has been lacking from most modern shooters.
There are some minor issues with lag on the online mode and there aren't as many game options as there is with a game like Call of Duty. There are also some issues with the Wii remote controls which can be fiddily but can be customize to your liking, however it never feels quite as tight as the Conduit or Modern Warfares system. It does however support the classic controller.
This is Tevin Edwards from VGZ rating this game a 9/10 for original use of gameplay.
black ops review
Call of Duty Black Ops - Review
Activision are once again gracing the Wii with a new installment of the Call of Duty franchise and just days after they released the highly rated remake of Goldeneye. The question is, is it any good?
The simple answer is yes, yes it really is. In fact you could go so far as to say it is the best first person shooter on the Wii. The Call of Duty games have always been some of the top titles on the Wii and with the last installment, Modern Warfare Reflex setting the bar for what should be done with a FPS on the Wii, they have once again stepped the game up with Call of Duty Black Ops.
Black Ops is set during the Vietnam war and sees the main character taken around the world from Cuba to Russia and Vietnam. The story is very gripping with some quite brutal scenes you come to expect from a Call of Duty title and is well paced to help the action flow smoothly. One minute you'll be storming a villa the next you'll be on motorcycle or piloting a chopper. This could have been one of the downfalls of the game, the thing is these sections feel and play really well.
If you are familiar with the look of Modern Warfare and World at War then you will know what to expect in terms of graphics, but things do look a little better in Black Ops. The customization of the controls make a welcome return and are as tight as ever plus there is also support of the classic controller in case you are more used to using a regular pad to play your shooters. The game also supports a special headset for the multiplayer games however doesn't support Wii speak which is slightly strange and annoying for those who will have to fork out another £25 for the same thing. Speaking of mutliplayer, Black Ops supports 10 player matches and plays with very little lag if any at all and has some of the best levels for any Wii shooter. However they are different enough that you may find yourself swapping between this and Modern Warfare. Then theres the addition of zombies which can be played either as single player or 4 player online. If you're not familiar with this then this mode sees you gunning down waves of zombies and can be brutally difficult at times but is incredibly fun.
It is impressive to see all the modes Treyarch have managed to squeeze onto this Wii title, plus theres also the downloadable content that is yet to be announced.
The single player campaign will take around 6-8 hours to complete, but with the inclusion of the multiplayer and zombies this game will keep you entertained for absolutely ages.
This is daniel morris from VGZ rating this game a 9/10 for remarkble gameplay.
